Fault Isolation
The basic strategy for isolating a fault in one of the enclosures is to start with the
controller enclosure and confirm that connectivity to the drives is working before
adding an expansion enclosure.
Add a single expansion enclosure and confirm that full connectivity to the drives on
that expansion enclosure is working. Continue adding expansion enclosures and
confirming connectivity one enclosure at a time.
Since each expansion enclosure is connected by two cables, the cables should be
added one at a time, confirming connectivity before proceeding.
If a cable is connected and the storage system starts logging errors, or appears
unresponsive, then the last added connection is likely the fault.
The failing component can be either the egress (out-going) port on the previous
enclosure, the cable itself, or the ingress (in-coming) port on the newly added
enclosure. To determine the component causing the failure swap components with
known good components.
